2 Pianosonates Op. 3 | Sheet Music

The digital edition of the sheet music for Ben van Daal’s 2 Piano Sonatas Op. 3 for piano solo. The term ‘sonata’ is derived from ‘sonare’, the Italian word for ‘to sound’. Originally, this term was used as a collective term for instrumental music. Piano Sonata Op. 3 No. 1 (2021), one of Ben van Daal’s earlier compositions, has a sombre character. This work resonates with uncertainty, yet also with hope for a happy ending. The light-hearted Piano Sonata Op. 3 No. 2 (2025), dedicated to choir conductor Piet Tobben, expresses joy and appreciation. Together, the sonatas form a complementary diptych.
